folder size error, unable to shrink

Postby drink it freddie » Mon Jul 25, 2011 11:31 pm

ok.. looks like a newie..
I get a video file from my C:drive, with an amount of for a DVD5 which is 4416mb, and
the 'error' report says "space available in folder 4166mb" (after several downloads; from 3861mb to whatever
but never the one that usually warns that "Warning, file is in excess of burnable disc etc"
the target folder is EMPTY...
then after I try to stick in the empty folder
another window pops in and says "DVD Shrink encountered an error n cannot continue..
There is not enough space on your target drive!"

I am overseas at the moment in Europe, but in Australia Shrink works perfectly
any good to blow this show
there was an JPEG attachment, that this site refused to take saying
"The file is too big, maximum allowed size is 256 Bytes."
and it was only 110kb..
so there's my day in nutshell

What kind of "video file" and what target (drive) do you want to shrink to?

Thanks for your quick reply :)
sorry but it looks like I made a bit of mess with my original;
The file is a dvd file (VOB), Like I said, I have used Shrink for several years, n never had this prob before
the files in this case are on My Doc in the My Video bit, where I usually keep my back up vid files
I've had no worries storing other things(and larger) transferring similar files on to my C:, where ever I may have put them,
no matter what size,
it only seems to be happening with this particular series of downloads since I have come to Europe.
Even when Shrink has said "burn may not fit", it would still back up the file, and then it would allow you
to further compress the file, but not say "Space available in folder:." was less than any space required.
when I first downloaded this limited to 3681mb and after other downloads (some I took from friends sites
and try it on on my pc) and got it up to 4166mb, and this can vary between attempts...

Cheers

You know that you do need VOBs/IFOs/BUPs for Shrink to be able to open the disc, right? A DVD5 can store 4481 MB while Shrink defaults to 4464 MB to add a little safety margin. So if the material can't be compressed enough to fit this size, you either gotta remove streams, trim start/end time or encode twice in a row. You can upload your jpg to imageshack.us and write the URL as text in your posting (links are disabled to deter spammers).

thanks again,
but the files (vob etc) are all in order,
the problem, to put it simply, is that Shrink will not even transfer a dvd file
it has previously done already to another empty file because of this
"Space available in folder:" limitation
quite frankly I'm thinking it may be the network I'm on here Europe that does something
as my Google Earth is giving me grief (it only freezes n never initializes)
so I am hoping it may be something I can change on the Shrink 'tools' or whatever
that the network altered or disabled.. :?:

I don't know what you think Shrink could do about this. I tend to believe it's rather a system issue.

well, I was hoping Shrink (the program) would do what it has always done, .. the usual

when you say you think it's a 'system issue', does that mean you think it's out of your reach?
Are you the only problem solver here? is there another authority you can point me to?

Like I said, I was just hoping that perhaps there was a way to fix this via the program
itself or perhaps show that I may have done something to stuff things up
Oh well, I suppose no solution, I'll just have to wait till I get to back to Aus
thanks very much for your time

Absolutely. As written in the FAQ, dvdshrink discontinued development in 2005, there's nothing to be done cause he won't open source the code. And like I said, since it's running pretty much everywhere else I suspect your system to be at fault somehow anyway.
