DVD Shrink Crash On Start-Up

It crashes with this error. I am running Windows Vista, 32-bit.



What should I do to fix the problem?

Looks like a generic error from your OS - nothing to do with DVDShrink I doubt.

Give more info about youer PC set up and when / why the error appears - that will be more helpful for someone to diagnose the problem.

The error appears on program startup. It also happens at the very end of installation.

I am having the exact same problem. When I originally downloaded DVD shrink after I got a new laptop with Windows Vista, it worked just fine the first time. The next time I tried opening DVD shrink, that message appeared. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but now at the end of installation the "DVD Shrink has stopped working" message pops up, and also when I try and start the program. I tried changing the compatibility under properties, but that didn't fix the problem. Please let me know if there is a solution.

It may be something called Data Execution Prevention. Check by doing the following...

Go to Control Panel > System and click on Advanced System Settings.
Then click on Settings in the Performance box.

Finally click on the Data Execution Prevention tab and click Add on the bottom. Find the exe for Shrink and add it to the list.

This works on Windows Server 2003 too - thanks! The symptom is different though: no error popup, the program simply doesn't start. Nothing is recorded in the error logs. I expect this is also what would happen if you enabled DEP on Windows XP with the /NoExecute=OptOut boot.ini switch.

DVD Shrink is a brilliant program - thanks again. Is anyone thinking of writing an Ubuntu port? I am a PC technician and am trying to persuade as many as possible to take the plunge - the water's lovely, no nasty jellyfish, and Ubuntu has applications galore besides OpenOffice, but sadly no DVD Shrink...

I get the same error using Windows 7 x64

Unfortunately when I try to apply the same fix I get a message saying 'this program must run with Data Execution Protection (DEP) enabled. You cannot turn DEP off for this program.

The FAQ has some links on what to do if Shrink does not run on newer systems. I've done it successfully on Win7 32 bit (without applying any of those tips) and read in a German newsgroup that it runs on 64 bit just fine.
